Live Webcast: El Niño Predictions

An El Niño year could help lessen the toll the current drought has taken on California. In a live webcast with weather experts on November 13 at 10:00 a.m., the Aquarium of the Pacific will present forecasts and predictions for this winter’s rainy season and the likelihood of an El Niño. The speakers will explain the El Niño phenomenon and use the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Science on a Sphere to show satellite images and other NOAA data.

Speakers will include NOAA’s National Weather Service Science and Operations Officer John Dumas; Dr. Bill Patzert, climatologist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory ; and Aquarium President and CEO Dr. Jerry R. Schubel. They will illustrate and analyze the potential impact of El Niño on our nation and the rest of the planet.

Viewers can send in questions to be answered during the live webcast by sending an email to live@lbaop.org or tweeting @AquariumPacific with the hashtag #aopelnino.

The Aquarium will be debuting a new show about El Niño for the Science on a Sphere during NOAA and Our Planet Day on November 15. The show will play daily on rotation with the other Science on a Sphere shows in the Ocean Science Center.
