Experts participating in a live webcast at the Aquarium on November 13 discussed newly released forecasts for El Niño. They used satellite images and other data projected on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Science on a Sphere® housed in the Aquarium’s Ocean Science Center.
Speakers included John Dumas, science and operations officer for NOAA’s National Weather Service; Dr. Bill Patzert, climatologist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory; and Dr. Jerry R. Schubel, Aquarium President and CEO.
NOAA’s National Weather Service is predicting a 58 percent likelihood of an El Niño event developing this winter.
