Video: Experts Discuss Extreme Weather

The Aquarium of the Pacific hosted a live webcast with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service to address extreme weather events, their increasing frequency and intensity, forecasting, and how we can prepare and adapt. Speakers during the webcast included Aquarium President and CEO Dr. Jerry R. Schubel; NOAA’s National Weather Service Meteorologist-In-Charge Mark Jackson; Glen M. MacDonald, UCLA professor of geography, ecology, and evolutionary biology; and Dr. Alexander “Sandy” McDonald, chief science advisor for NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, director of the Earth System Research Laboratory, and inventor of NOAA’s Science on a Sphere. The Aquarium also debuted its new Extreme Weather show for NOAA’s Science on a Sphere. The show, funded by The Miller Foundation, will be played daily in the Aquarium’s Ocean Science Center. It will also be shown at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, and NOAA Headquarters in Silver Springs, Maryland. More than 50 million people visiting these and other institutions with an SOS across the country may have the opportunity to view this Extreme Weather show because it has been made available through NOAA’s SOS Network.

The Aquarium regularly hosts live web events like this to address current ocean, environmental, and climate science issues with top scientists and experts. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to be notified of the next upcoming live web event.
